Intermediate Art - Intermediate Level Art students continue to explore a visual arts production, history and critique, and the many forms introduced in Beginning Art (level one). The teacher defines media, problem-solving, and project focus appropriate at this level. Students continue to explore and develop increased knowledge of materials and technical skills for producing artwork, and will do this in the areas of: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Textiles, and Mixed Media. Students explore original subject matter, appropriate for beginning to develop a student portfolio. Current Intermediate art prospectus Proficient Art - Proficient visual arts students will apply knowledge and skills to develop and clarify creative thinking and art production work skills, as well as define their own personal ideas and philosophy about Art. While students may continue to work with teacher defined focus areas, they will assume increased responsibility for idea development as well as conduct independent research related to the problems provided. Work will demonstrate more in-depth, independent, and advanced explorations with processes, and techniques. Students begin to develop a portfolio showing quality work, broad knowledge base, and in-depth understanding of personal art. Students continue to critique their own work and progress. In this Honors level course students will engage in a personally chosen focus area. The concentration will demonstrate creative thinking skills, exploration of techniques and media, and will include application of research. Current Proficient art prospectus Advanced Art - Advanced Level visual arts students develop, clarify, and apply their philosophy of art and art making developed in Proficient Level Art through in-depth, independent, and advanced explorations with media, techniques, processes, and aesthetics. Exceptional initiative, serious involvement, and commitment are expectations of the Advanced student. A portfolio evidencing high quality, a broad base of knowledge, and in-depth understanding of personal art forms is developed and refined. Students take part in planning and preparing for exhibition of their work. Students will keep a sketchbook that will be used for the exploration of daily drawing assignments, to plan and develop ideas for portfolio projects, and for reflecting on his or her art. Students will participate in formal and informal critique and self-evaluation. Current Advanced art prospectus AP 2D and 3D Design - AP Studio Art is designed for the seriously interested and highly motivated student who has the desire to study Visual Art on a more committed level. Students in this college level course are required to complete a portfolio of work consisting of original quality pieces; a breadth of work showing knowledge and skill in various media, processes, and techniques; and a concentration showing an in-depth investigative and creative study of a selected topic. To accomplish the amount of work necessary, students will devote time beyond regular class periods to the production of their art. Students will keep a sketch book that will be used for the exploration of assigned topics, to plan and develop ideas for portfolio projects, and for reflecting on his or her art.
